Connect Mac to XS4ALL via Treo 650
My ISP, XS4ALL, had an offer for a free Treo 650 with monthly voice and GPRS plans via KPN Mobile. This Treo comes with Dial-Up Networking (DUN) enabled, so I should be able to use it to connect my Mac Powerbook to the internet via Bluetooth. Some googling gave me the following working solution:
- Download the Generic GPRS scripts from Ross Barkman’s Home Page and install them in
~/Library/Modem Scripts. - Configure Bluetooth PPP with the settings
- Modem Script: Generic GPRS CID1
- Account Name: XS4ALL user name
- Password: XS4ALL password
- Phone Number: xs4all.nl
- Optionally set the proxy to http://mwa.xs4all.nl:8081/ to use the Mobile Web Accelerator.
Note: the phone number is really the Access Point Name (APN). You can probably also use Internet here and leave Account Name and Password blank, to use the KPN Mobile internet connection, but then you will not have access to the Mobile Web Accelerator.
